Abstract
Diary and photographs, 1944-1945. The diary begins on April 1, 1944 with the voyage on SS Cape Victory to Guadalcanal and Treasury Island and concludes on June 6, 1945 with his return to the USA in USS Hershey with a stop in Hawaii. Pope comments on his daily routine, a bombing mission over Rabaul, broadcasts of Tokyo Rose, his assignment on PT 129, the 1944 typhoon, the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Kamikaze attacks, battle at Olmuc, Pl, the war in Europe, assignment with PT 134, PT boat raids, recreation, social life with WACS, nurses, and Red Cross workers, death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, V-E Day, PT boat hits and list of PT boats damaged, and casualties. Photographs are of PT boats, crews, officers, and Filipino natives.
