Scope and Contents

This folder is comprised mostly of Captain Caney's correspondence during his assignment as the head of the U.S. Navy's Technical Assistance Team stationed at Bander Pahlavi on the Caspian Sea. The mission of this team was to assist the Imperial Iranian Navy in developing the technical skills neededc to maintain and operate modern warships.

Scope and Contents

Caney served on the Destroyer Secection Evaluation Board, part of the DX/DXG program, which was researching the possibility of adding new destroyer types, temporarily identified as DX and DXG, to the fleet. This program was developed to respond to the need to replace a large number of obsolescent ships of WWII vintange still operational in the fleet.
