Biographical Note

Paul R. Schratz was a captain in the U.S. Navy and a 1939 graduate of the US Naval Academy. He received a Ph.D. in military history from Ohio State University. He retired from the Navy In 1968 and was on the faculty of the University of Missouri, Georgetown University and the Air War College. He is the author of several books and contributed to professional journals. He wrote a monthly column for Shipmate for forty years.
