Dear Commodore Luce:
Yours of the 11th reached me this morning. I know your [illegible] very well and while I hold him in high esteem both personally and professionally I do not think he is [illegible] - the man needed as instructor of Military Science. The [illegible] man I have I have selected to recommend to the Sec of War is Lieut. Tasker H. Bliss of the 1st Arety. - one of the most accomplished officers in the [profession?]. My desire is that you should have the very best man we have for the list [illegible] + if I can get the Secretary to approve my selection, I feel that you will have probably the best desirable officers for the place.
Very truly yours, R.C. Drum
