Danielewicz discusses his service in the Navy during WWII, 1942-1945, including boot camp, USS Essex where he was a gunner's mate on the five inch gun, and the Battle of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, kamikaze attacks, a fire on the USS Essex, a typhoon, bombarding Japan, VJ Day celebration, discharge, and time in the Navy Reserve for two years. Part of the WWII Veterans Oral History project.
