Ellis was born in 1924 in Pretty Prairie, Kansas, attended secretarial school in Pontiac, MI and worked at General Motors before joining the Navy. She remained in New York, worked for a dress designer, and was married in 1950. At the time of recording, she lived in Newport, RI.
