Scope and Contents From the Collection: The collection consists of six and one-half boxes that document Taussig’s naval career from 1865 to 1919. The papers are divided into seven series: Naval Orders, Correspondence, Journals, Reports, Newspaper Clippings, Photographs, and Miscellany.Series I, Naval Orders, consists of orders dating from October 1, 1875 to November 17, 1909. They are arranged chronologically and include letters of assignment and detachment.Series II, Correspondence, letters, both sent and received, date from 1865 to 1919. This series is arranged chronologically. Correspondence received, 1886–1909, includes his management of the Navy’s exhibit at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois, in 1893, letters of congratulations, naval assignments, disciplinary issues, matters of pay and compensation, and invitations. Letters sent, 1865–1919, include a letter to CDR Stephen B. Scope and Contents From the Record Group:

This collection consists of correspondence, reports, publications, photographs, audio cassettes, digital media (floppy disks and compact discs, etc.), and digital files regarding the International Seapower Symposium. These records document the organization and proceedings of each symposium and include speeches, presentations, schedules, programs, reports, and other materials used and referenced at each symposia. The extent of records for each symposium varies.

Records from 1969-1976 contain folders for each country that had an officer attending the symposium. Within these folders are correspondence, biographical and career information, and their travel arrangements. Also found within this record group are speeches and reports from symposia were established due to the influence of the International Seapower Symposium. These include the 1972 Regional Seapower Symposium, hosted biannually in Venice for naval leaders from Mediterranean and Black Sea countries to discuss common challenges, and the 1973 Hague Symposium, held annually to focus on post-conflict transitions and international justice.

Series I, family papers, consists of genealogical materials taken from Morgan City, Louisiana Archives on the Brashear and Lawrence families, a history of Morgan City, LA, and correspondence and newspaper clippings regarding the restoration of the Lawrence family cemetery in Bayside, Long Island. Correspondence, speeches and writings of various family members are found here too, as well as biographical and autobiographical materials on Admiral Eccles.Correspondence, Series II, is divided into five subseries; Naval orders and career correspondence, personal correspondence, official correspondence, letters of condolence to Mrs. Eccles on the death of Admiral Eccles, and miscellaneous correspondence of others that was found in his papers.Eccles' correspondence reveals aspects of his naval career, his many professional and intellectual interests and associations, and his study of military logistics.
