Scope and Contents From the Collection: The collection consists of five boxes of paper and photographs that document Koburger's writing and research career from 1983 to 2008. The papers are divided into six series: Correspondence, subject files, published writings, unpublished writings, photographs and miscellaneous materials.Series I, correspondence, contains letters mainly to and from journals regarding articles considered for publication. Several letters are to companies requesting permission to use photographs in some ofKoburger's works. The letters are arranged chronologically.The second series consists of subject files relating to Koburger's various articles and histories that he wrote in the 1980s through the 2000s. Much of these documents are photocopies of articles, primary source material, maps, press releases, pamphlets and a few books.Series III, published works, is made up of just a few pieces ofKoburger's published works. Included are segments of Central Powers in the Adriatic: 1914-1918, a complete manuscript copy of Rum and Raki: War in the Eastern Adriatic 1939-1945, as well as a copy of the article "The ShaefSyndrome: The Soviet Navy's Impact on NATO."Series IV is comprised of unpublished works. This collection consists of correspondence, reports, publications, photographs, audio cassettes, digital media (floppy disks and compact discs, etc.), and digital files regarding the International Seapower Symposium. These records document the organization and proceedings of each symposium and include speeches, presentations, schedules, programs, reports, and other materials used and referenced at each symposia. The extent of records for each symposium varies.

Records from 1969-1976 contain folders for each country that had an officer attending the symposium. Within these folders are correspondence, biographical and career information, and their travel arrangements. Also found within this record group are speeches and reports from symposia were established due to the influence of the International Seapower Symposium. These include the 1972 Regional Seapower Symposium, hosted biannually in Venice for naval leaders from Mediterranean and Black Sea countries to discuss common challenges, and the 1973 Hague Symposium, held annually to focus on post-conflict transitions and international justice.

Scope and Contents From the Collection:

This collection contains correspondence, articles, research materials, speeches and lectures, books, audio and video cassette tapes, maps, photographs, and scrapbooks relating to Frank M. Snyder’s naval and academic careers from 1941 through 2010. The bulk of this collection documents Snyder’s academic work following his retirement from the Navy in 1970. Included are various research materials, audiocassettes, slides, and other materials collected and utilized by Snyder for his lectures and publications on several topics such as naval battles of World War II, Navy command and control systems, naval operational planning, the attack of the Liberty in 1967, the Spanish-American War, and Newport as a fleet base.

Additionally, this collection includes three scrapbooks of documents collected by Snyder documenting his career from enlistment into the Navy through his retirement as a faculty member of the Naval War College. These scrapbooks include photographs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, certificates, Snyder’s naval orders, and some research information about the ships he served on during his active duty in the Navy.

This collection was arranged by Frank M. Snyder into related subjects, an order which has been respected by NHC staff members throughout the processing of this collection.
